The Finlandia Foundation New York Metropolitan Chapter has a distinguished record of awarding scholarships and grants to qualified individuals. Scholarships are awarded for study in the United States and Finland in such fields as science, medicine, business, music, art, history, education, and Finnish studies.

Scholarships for American students who are conducting research in Finland or on Finnish-related subjects in U.S., and Finnish students studying in the U.S. will be considered. All scholarships are intended for study or research at an accredited institution for the ensuing academic year, and are in the amount of $500 to $5,000. To date, close to $1,000,000 in scholarships and grants have been awarded from the following endowments:

The John A. Pihlman and Annie E. Wikander Scholarship Fund 
Provides financial assistance to American students who wish to study in Finland and Finnish students who wish to combine study in Finland and the United States.

The Tyyni Kalervo Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance primarily for students from Finland, wishing to pursue higher education in the United States.

The Jean Sibelius Memorial Fund
Open to qualified applicants whose goals require the study of Finnish Arts.

The New York Metropolitan Chapter Scholarship Fund
With the goal of cultivating closer relations between Finland and the United States of America, The New York Metropolitan Chapter Fund supports artists, musicians, students, cultural heritage projects and other programming in the Tri-State area.

The deadline for applications is January 31 every year. Please answer all the  questions. You must, at minimum, be a university level freshman with evidence of  enrollment as a sophomore. Applications, including letters of recommendation and  other supporting documentation, exceeding 10 pages will not be considered. The  application, including supporting documentation, should be completed and submitted via the below form.

For grant applicants, please note the following:

Fill in the scholarship application for the applicable parts and include a letter requesting the grant and what it would be used for.

Completed applications with a proposed plan of study, transcripts and letters of recommendation must be received by January 31st. All applicants will be notified of the Scholarship Committee's decision by the end of May each year.
